Logistics

Analysis and optimisation for logistics operations.

We help organisations plan and run physical operations: collection, transport, and the networks behind them. The tools are optimisation, simulation and machine learning. The work spans waste and recycling, municipal services, ports and bulk materials, and traffic.

What we do
Optimisation

Routes, fleets and networks

Routing, fleet sizing, sectoring, scheduling and facility location, including arc routing for street-based collection. Finding the arrangement that costs least and still works.

Simulation

Testing before committing

System-dynamics, traffic and operations models that test resource needs and options before the money is spent.

Data & ML

Reading the operation

Inferring activity from GPS and operational data, building KPIs, clustering, and estimating the savings on offer.

Selected work

A sample of past projects.

Waste & recycling

Collection route and fleet optimisation, next-day dispatch, and resource modelling for large public tenders, one of which secured £200m of new business. Work for ALBA, Veolia, Biffa and Bingo Industries.

Municipal collection

Daily routes, fleet sizing, sectoring and transfer-station placement for city-scale services. Implemented with OXFAM Italia and Ekurhuleni Municipality.

Ports & bulk materials

Coal stockyard resourcing, road-to-rail terminal siting, and port KPI analysis. Work for ESKOM, WorleyParsons and the Port of Richards Bay.

Recycling economics

Simulation and financial modelling to compare recycling options and their collection logistics, used to weigh a £10m investment for Avery Dennison.

Traffic & access

Simulation of traffic impact and congestion at high-volume sites, with practical alleviation measures.

Notes

Writing on how operations actually run.

When a bid depends on the network behind it, we bring the same models to the tender. See the bidding & tendering work →
